A number of our church members have trained to become Street and Prayer Pastors. Street Pastors is part of the nationally registered Christian charity the Ascension Trust based in London. The Isle of Wight Street Pastors Charity is one of 350 and growing ministries in the United Kingdom.
Isle of Wight Street Pastors was established in 2008 and registered as a charity in 2010 with the aim of improving community safety, reducing anti-social behaviour and protecting vulnerable people. Volunteer Street Pastors patrol the streets of Isle of Wight Town Centres from the evening through to the early hours of the morning providing a listening ear, a watchful presence and ready to provide practical assistance to those in need. Street Pastors are active in Ryde, Newport and Ventnor as well as Cowes during Cowes week and on New Year’s Eve. Whilst the Street Pastors are out on the streets the Prayer Pastors remain at a base ready to respond in prayer to the situations the street pastor’s encounter.
The charity currently has 50 Street Pastors providing support to the Island community from many different Island church denominations, working in partnership with the Police and Isle of Wight Council.
