I was really struck with this letter, which Andrew kindly drew to my attention. There is a realism about it, in particular acknowledging that we can become weary in rising to yet another Covid challenge. However, when we do indeed rise – and encourage each other to do likewise – we receive encouragement in return. This new reality means we have to be real with one another – but maybe that is a plus also. Churches cannot grow through unwilling acquiescence. But new transparent wineskins, containing the new wine of encouragement, are churches ready to effervesce while everything else tastes lukewarm and flat.
