SERVING ON THE ISLAND
ISLE OF WIGHT STREET PASTORS
A number from our church have been trained to be involved in this project. Street Pastors is an inter-denominational Church response to urban and large town challenges, engaging with people on the streets to care, listen and dialogue. It was pioneered in London in January 2003 by Rev Les Isaac, Director of the Ascension Trust, and has seen some remarkable results, including drops in crime in areas where teams have been working. There are now over 100 teams around the United Kingdom.
The Isle of Wight project is run by local coordinator David Ouston with over 20 volunteers from different Island churches, in partnership with Police and the Isle of Wight Council. From July every Friday a team of 4 or 5 Street Pastors will be going out on the streets, initially in Ryde town centre, from 10pm through to 4pm
Please contact Rebecca Kelly if you would like to know more or be involved in some way or visit the website: www.iowstreetpastors.org.uk
